The varied countryside of Ireland is a delight to visit and travel through. Key features include the beautiful Ring of Kerry, the Dingle Peninsula, the Cliffs of Moher, the Wicklow Mountains and the imposing Giant’s Causeway.
Ireland offers many historical sites and buildings to visit the oldest of which, at Newgrange dates back to 3,200 BC. The historical town and castle of Kilkenny are rewarding to visit and if it is the gift of the gab you are after then you might want to head to Blarney Castle, and kiss the famous Blarney Stone.
The City of Dublin offers both activities and sights aplenty. You might choose to visit Trinity College, and view the ancient celtic Book of Kells housed there, or perhaps you would prefer to shop in style on Grafton Street.
The literary heritage of Ireland is strong and illustrious. In Dublin you may choose to visitthe fascinating Dublin Writers Museum, The National Library of Ireland, which has the largest collection of Yeats manuscripts in the world, or the James Joyce Museum at Sandy Cove, Dublin. You can also visit the areas of Ireland that inspired the works of Frank McCourt (Angela’s Ashes which is based in Limerick), Maeve Binchy and Roddy Doyle (both from Dublin)
Ireland is the home of the world famous Waterford Crystal, so why not take a tour of the Visitor Centre and see the masters at work. Alternatively you could visit the Rathcormac Craft Village, the home ofBenbulben Pottery, to watch the pottery being made and perhaps come home with a few purchases of your own. |
